Bali Dinner on the Beach

One of the best nights ever! At the suggestion of Mary Clarke, who used to live in Bali, we had dinner in the Semanyak area. There was this awesome restaurant on the beach (our table was literally on the middle of the beach). Aaron went inside and picked out the fish he wanted... from the tank. They took them from the tank and cooked them up for us. You can't get fresher than that! We watched the sun set while we ate yummy food, drank fun drinks and then ran around in the white sand. We had a very early flight the next morning, so we stayed at a hotel next to the airport that night and took some very happy and tired kids home to Shanghai the next day. Awesome, awesome trip.

Nu Sedua

We LOVE the Westin in Nu Sedua. There is a fabulous Kids Club that allows the kids to eat as much food as they want, and they can refill their drink cups anytime they want. There are fun activities for them to go and do and give me a break! Plus a fun kids pool that Sophie loved and would play in for hours that I could just sit in a chair and watch her... I didn't have to get in! Heaven for me! We were there at the same time as a couple other Dulwich families, so the kids had friends to play with. And our good friends, the Gustafson's, were staying at the Grand Hyatt next door, so we met them one night for dinner at Benihana's. It was awesome to spend a few days in Ubud, the cultural center of Bali, and then relax for a few days on the beach.

It was amazing to watch the wood carvers make these masterful creations out of a solid piece of wood. I would have liked to have bought more, but things were not cheap. We bought a carved box that is gorgeous.

We went to a very cool Balinese Dance/Play. Not exactly sure what it was about, but there was a monkey and a beast involved. The music was very beautiful and it was a great cultural experience for all of us.

Quotes to Remember

We were in Munich and just checking into our Hotel and both the girls needed to go to the bathroom. We all ran upstairs to our rooms and they both bolted into the bathroom. They began to fight over which one was going to use the toilet first. They argue for a few seconds when Katie shouts, "Mom, which one of us do you want to pee their pants?!" (May, 2009)
We were driving home from church last week and I said something like, "We are going to buy a Toyota Sequoia". Suddenly from the back we hear our 4 year old, Ashley, pipe up ... "You killed my Father...Prepare to Die!"...somehow she confused "Toyota Sequoia" with "Inigo Montoya" from the Princess Bride! (May, 2009)
Ashley and I were playing a card game when she says to me, "pause the game, I have to go to the bathroom". This is when I realized the technology gap between my childhood and hers.
I asked Ashley what country she was born in (she was born in Canada). She told me that she couldn't remember, so I tried to give her a hint. I said, "you were born in Cannnn...". To which she immediately exclaimed in triumph..."CANDYLAND!!"
Katie woke us up this morning telling us we needed to get up. Heather told her that her head hurt and she wasn't going to get up yet. Katie responds, "But you don't WALK on your head, so get up!"
