Ashley's 3rd Birthday Party

Ashley turned three today, which is CRAZY. We can't believe that she is this old (it was already TWO years ago that we celebrated her birthday a day late so we could go to the Depeche Mode concert in Toronto with Mark and Kristen Voorhies and Kim Rollins. We felt bad, but figured a one year old wouldn't care and the concert was worth it!...see bottom of post for video of that event...I know a tangent but we didn't have this blog back then, so here's my opportunity to post some old cool stuff!).

Heather planned a Dora party for Ashley. It was great and included a Dora cake (laboriously made by hand with the help of a friend, but HOURS of work to get it right). Katie was the first to point out, though, that Dora's shorts are ORANGE, not RED, but who would have guessed that anyone would notice (even though the directions said to use red)! We served a number of different Mexican dishes (enchiladas, 7 Layer, other mexican dips, etc.).

After everyone was finished eating we beat (pulled strings from) a pinata. Everyone loved this except for Katie who suddenly felt overrun by three year olds as she just stood there looking around trying to figure out which candy to go after. After realizing she took too long to decide, she burst into tears. Fortunately, a number of unselfish guests came over and filled her bag up with candy from their bags.

It turned out great. We had 25 little toddlers/pre-schoolers and their parents running around the house, but everyone seemed to have a great time and Ashley especially. She maintained a grin from ear to ear throughout the party.

The next Monday Heather brought cupcakes to Ashley's pre-school class, which they obviosuly enjoyed very much.

Quotes to Remember

We were in Munich and just checking into our Hotel and both the girls needed to go to the bathroom. We all ran upstairs to our rooms and they both bolted into the bathroom. They began to fight over which one was going to use the toilet first. They argue for a few seconds when Katie shouts, "Mom, which one of us do you want to pee their pants?!" (May, 2009)
We were driving home from church last week and I said something like, "We are going to buy a Toyota Sequoia". Suddenly from the back we hear our 4 year old, Ashley, pipe up ... "You killed my Father...Prepare to Die!"...somehow she confused "Toyota Sequoia" with "Inigo Montoya" from the Princess Bride! (May, 2009)
Ashley and I were playing a card game when she says to me, "pause the game, I have to go to the bathroom". This is when I realized the technology gap between my childhood and hers.
I asked Ashley what country she was born in (she was born in Canada). She told me that she couldn't remember, so I tried to give her a hint. I said, "you were born in Cannnn...". To which she immediately exclaimed in triumph..."CANDYLAND!!"
Katie woke us up this morning telling us we needed to get up. Heather told her that her head hurt and she wasn't going to get up yet. Katie responds, "But you don't WALK on your head, so get up!"
