Hawaii Day 1 and 2... Jan 25-26, 2012

We left Singapore on Tuesday morning and flew to Oahu, through Narita, Japan.  The kids did pretty well on the flight and long layover, and they slept a lot.  We arrived early on Tuesday morning (hard to wrap your head around traveling all day, but not losing any time.  Oahu is 18 hours behind Shanghai) and headed to our hotel in Waikiki.  We spent the afternoon on the beach and the evening at Costco!!!  It was very exciting for us!  My friend from Louisville, Jen, has a sister that lives on the the North Shore of Oahu.  She met us at Costco and loaned us a bunch of boogie boards and sand toys for the kids to play with.  It was fabulous to have those for the kids!
The next day we went to Pearl Harbor.  I had been there before (in 1995 with a big group of my EFY friends), but it was Aaron's first time there.  It is a very sobering place to be, and difficult for the kids to understand.  But we watched a very good film before a ferry took us out to the USS Arizona Memorial.   It is very quiet and peaceful on the memorial, as it is the burial place for so many of the men that died there.  We very much enjoyed our experience there.
