Singapore day 2 ... Jan 22, 2012

We woke up early enough to get ready, get some breakfast, and make it to church on time, something we can barely do at home.
After church we changed clothes and took the cable car from Mt Faber across the river (bay?) to Sentosa Island.
We first went through the Singapore history exhibit (Images of Singapore) that was actually quite interesting. It had just enough hands on elements mingled with the history of Singapore that both Heather and I, as well as the kids, were able to enjoy.
From there we made our way down the hill passing through the many "Year of the Dragon" festivities. We ate at Chilis, which main highlight is free refills, something we sorely miss in China (in fact, often a soda costs more than the main course. Makes little sense). We strolled around the plaza, passed a Din Tai Fung (our favorite restaurant in Shanghai), ate ice cream, and enjoyed the weather and ambiance. We hiked back up (I say hike only because we were pushing a stroller but they have escalators throughout to simplify the journey) and then went up the Merlion, the symbol of the island and a 500 ft statue that you can climb up and see the view of Singapore from the lion's mouth. From there we headed back to the cable car back to Mt Faber and eventually our hotel.
We tried to meet up with our friends from Shanghai to do the Night Safari at the Singapore Zoo but it had started to drizzle so we figured it could wait another night and they say you can't see too many animals out of it is raining. So we called it a night. Perhaps if our kids were older we would have headed back to Chinatown to take part in the New Years celebrations going on there (the equivalent of Singapore's Times Square for the "ball drop"), but we didn't have it in us, so we went to bed.
