We woke up a little late again, ate breakfast at Starbucks and took the shuttle back to Orchard Rd where we just walked again. After walking through Lucky Square we hopped in a taxi toward the zoo, with a quick detour to Raffles Hotel, to check it out. We then made it to the zoo as it started to rain. Our skill at avoiding rain is starting to deteriorate. But we survived and were able to enjoy the Singapore Zoo. I like this zoo because you do not feel like animals are in cages like some other US zoos but rather just roaming relatively freely with strategic rock formations or strategically placed ditches to keep the people away from the animals. It is quite well laid out. Despite the rain we had a great afternoon at the zoo. The kids especially liked their front row seats at the sea lion show, but were disappointed they didn't get more wet. At the end they were invited to stand right in front of the tank to let the sea lion splash them... and they happily did! They couldn't have gotten much more wet because of the rain, and they loved it!
After a few hours at the zoo, we met our friends from Shanghai, the Gustafson's, at the Night Safari. We got on a tram that took us through a different part of the zoo and we got to see the animals at night. It was just like seeing the animals in the day, only it was night.... but the kids loved it. I guess it made it seems a little spookier. We had fun nonetheless.
At the end of the safari there was a fire show, which we watched for a bit before we had to head back to the hotel. We had an early morning flight to Hawaii!!!
